Air Serbia has recently implemented a backup system for passenger check-in at JFK Terminal One. Provided by TOGA, access to the Ink Disaster Recovery System (DRS) secures efficient passenger check-in and processing for flights to and from Belgrade, even during disruptions to the primary Departure Control System (DCS) or other technical issues.

Jovan Dmitrović, Primary DCS and Help Desk Team Leader at Air Serbia explains, "The improvement of services at JFK Terminal One enables us to continue processing passengers and luggage using the Ink Disaster Recovery as a backup in the event of interruptions to the primary DCS, operational disruptions of CUTE equipment, or power outages."

What were the key implementation steps and team roles involved?

Jovan: During the testing itself, it was necessary to configure the backup system according to the needs, requirements and instructions of the airline, which will be active for Air Serbia flights to and from New York. It was also necessary to activate the seat map, SITA addresses, SSRs, slow down the loading of the passenger list for more efficient reception of passengers and luggage, enable the issuance of boarding tickets and baggage tags, and test the BRS system.

Jovan notes that GHA JFK Jetway Team colleagues were trained to use the Ink DRS system. After that, passenger and baggage reception tests were carried out on two flights in a production environment, which were successful, thus confirming the readiness to use the backup check-in system.

What does this promotion mean for Air Serbia and its passengers?

Jovan: By implementing the Ink DRS, we improved the passenger and baggage reception service due to the interruption of the primary DCS system, which avoids applying a manual procedure. It allows us to receive passengers and luggage more efficiently and quickly deliver information about travel documents to the US immigration authorities. Therefore, providing superior service to our passengers on the Belgrade - New York - Belgrade line is ensured.
