How to transform passenger operations and interaction: Ink’s vision at PTE 2024

Ink Innovation shares its vision of the Connected Journeys at Passenger Terminal Expo to reimagine airport operations.
Rethinking passenger interaction: Key highlights from Ink at PTE 2024
At the Passenger Terminal Expo (PTE) in Frankfurt, Ink brought its ‘Connected Journeys’ vision to life — offering a bold and practical glimpse into the future of airport operations.
As airports strive to keep pace with rapidly evolving passenger expectations, Ink introduced a new approach: one that replaces outdated four-hour check-in queues with fluid, tech-enabled travel experiences. The goal is to help airports break free from legacy limitations and transform into hubs of connected steps.
“Our focus extends beyond the act of travel; it's about creating meaningful connections throughout the journey,” said Blaine Powell, Chief Sales Officer at Ink. “With Ink, airports not only improve passenger experience — they also find new revenue streams through flexible, retail-focused technology.”
Ink experience with PTE
PTE remains one of the aviation industry's most influential global events, drawing over 7,000 attendees from more than 100 countries. Ink has a long-standing history with the show, starting with the first showcase in Paris in 2006. From launching Ink DCS and Ink Touch to unveiling Load Control systems and self-service hardware, each appearance has marked a key milestone in our journey.
In 2024, we built on that legacy with the latest evolution of our self-service solutions — including our compact, biometrics-enabled units and the upgraded QuickTag, all designed to retrofit easily into existing airport environments.
“Developing our first self-service bag drop was a pivotal moment,” recalled Yurik Schwab, Head of Hardware Systems at Ink. “Retrofitting is crucial — it allows airports to modernise without the cost and disruption of major overhauls.”

Exploring innovations for modern retailing with Ink
Ink presented Connected Journeys, a demo that highlighted how the modular ecosystem links passenger interactions across every airport touchpoint — from check-in to boarding. The walking-pace, frictionless journey we envision is about more than efficiency. It’s about turning operations into opportunities — and turning moments into meaningful experiences.
Through a combination of live demos and expert-led discussions, we illustrated how airports and airlines can move beyond siloed systems and toward circular, retail-ready platforms that serve both passengers and providers.
